Any blasting operations in Massachusetts require a permit from the local fire department.
Blasting operations must be completed by a licensed professional.
Blasting Companies must hold an Explosives Users Certificate.
Individual blasters must hold an Explosives Certificate of Competency.
Companies must have explosive magazine permits for permanent and vehicle mounted magazines.
Local fire departments issue Use and Handling Permits for specific blasting operations.
Blasting Operations in Westford
Any company conducting blasting operations within the Town of Westford is required to obtain a permit from the Westford Fire Prevention Office Monday-Friday between 7am and 3pm.
The permit fee is $50.00. Checks must be made payable to the Town of Westford.
Once issued, permits are active for 30 days.
A Fire Department detail is required from the time explosives arrive on site until all blasting operations have been completed.
To schedule a detail please call 978-399-2345. DO NOT leave a voice mail as the detail may not be filled. 24 hour notice shall be given for any cancellations.
Blasting is allowed Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm 4:00 PM excluding holidays.
Use of perchlorate materials are prohibited in the Town of Westford.

In the event you experience property damage as a result of blasting operations, a report must be filed with the local fire department. Property owners experiencing damage from blasting operations conducted in Westford must call 978-399-2345 to file a report with Fire Prevention.
Only in the event of damage to property will owners complete the FP-296 form which can be found below. Forms must be completed and returned to the fire department within 30 days of the alleged incident.
