[ARCHIVED] National Learn to Row Day at Forge Pond, Saturday, June 3

Join Westford Community Rowing (WCR) for
NATIONAL LEARN TO ROW DAY

Saturday June 3, 2017
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Forge Pond, Westford, MA

Come down to Forge Pond and try out one of the fastest growing sports in the country. The best part of all is that it’s FREE!

  • Rowing is a lifelong sport that is enjoyed competitively and recreationally.
  • Learn basic rowing technique and how to use the equipment.
  • Get a taste of what it’s like to row on the water (weather permitting).

Visit About Westford Community Rowing on westfordrec.com to learn about the year-round WCR programs that are offered for all ages and levels.

How much does National Learn to Row Day cost? It’s free.

Who can participate? Everyone 13 and up can try it out.

What will we be doing? You will learn the basics of the rowing stroke on an ergometer (a.k.a. an erg or rowing machine). You will then have an opportunity to try rowing in a shell (boat).

What should I wear? Form-fitting athletic clothing is recommended. The important thing is to not wear extremely loose clothing.

What happens if there is bad weather on June 3rd?  We plan to run the event rain or shine. However, check the Learn to Row page on the WCR site for updates; any announcement of changes will be made by 8:00 a.m. on the day of the event.

How do I get to Forge Beach? You can use Google Maps: click here to find the location. If you are familiar with the area, it is near the intersection of West Prescott and Pleasant Streets across from Abbot Mill Lane. The access road is immediately between the railroad tracks and the Stony Brook Dam.

WCR, a Westford Parks & Recreation program, is supported by Westford Friends of Recreation (WFOR), a volunteer board whose mission is to help improve the community’s recreational opportunities. WCR provides a rowing experience that is both on and off the water, for rowers of all ages and abilities, from novices to experienced oarspeople.
