Mission Statement


The mission of the Parks & Recreation Department is to ensure the smooth, efficient operation, management and administration of the overall workings of the department's three divisions: Parks and Grounds, Recreation Services and Programs, and Cemetery Operations.

The mission of the Parks and Grounds Department is to ensure all park and grounds maintenance services are appropriate, cost-effective, and of the highest quality. The employees work to preserve and enhance Westford's active and passive recreation areas, municipal grounds, monuments, playgrounds, beaches, skate park, sand volleyball court, tennis and basketball courts.

2020/21 Westford Partnership for Children (WPC) After School Program Update

At their 9/8/20 meeting, the Westford Select Board approved the Parks & Recreation Department’s current plan to implement a modified Westford Partnership for Children Program (WPC). We are now in the process of receiving final approval from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in order to begin the WPC program for the 20/21 school year.  A registration date and program start date will be determined as additional information becomes available from the Commonwealth.  Westford Parks & Recreation will post this information as soon as possible.  

Program Information  

The WPC program will run in the Millennium Building and is designed to serve students enrolled in the hybrid learning model.  The program will serve A Pod/B Pod students, in the afternoons, on alternating weeks, during the weeks their respective pods are attending in-school synchronous learning.  The program will run Monday - Friday, beginning with the dismissal/transportation/lunch period, and running through 5:00 or 5:30 p.m., depending on grade. Registered WPC participants will be transported by bus from their respective schools to the Millennium Building. 

Registration

  • Once finalized, program registration will be held online, on a first come/first serve basis.  Please use the following link to access registration and additional program information  www.westfordrec.com 
  • The program is divided into five (5) sessions. 
  • Registration is by session, for the entire session length.  There is no option for part-time enrollment. 
  • Anticipated session dates will be identified in the WPC Parent Handbook and on the registration page.
  • Participants must register according to their Westford Public School assigned pod.  
  • Session pricing is based on $50/day.  The final cost for each session will be based upon the respective pod schedule and corresponding program days. 
  • A program deposit of $100 will be collected at the time of registration and applied to the session total.  
  • Waitlists will be created and used to backfill available program space.  
  • The Program Registrar will follow up with registered families regarding tuition and schedule.

Beaches, Swimming, Summer Weekly Programs and more

Forge Pond Beach and Edwards Beach, including the beach bathrooms, have been closed for the season as of 8/23/2020. 

The Edwards Beach and Forge Pond Beach 2020 season ran from June 29 through August 23, with the following hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information about next season, including Swimming LessonsSummer Weekly Programs for children, and other summer activities, visit  About Waterfront and Summer Weekly Programs at the Westford Parks & Recreation website, westfordrec.com

Bathrooms are available at Forge Pond Beach and Edwards Beach during the summer season only.

Edwards Beach and Forge Pond are community resources to be enjoyed by the public year round from dawn to dusk. During the off-season, please help us keep these facilities clean by following a Carry-in/carry-out trash protocol. We appreciate your help!


Winter Clean Up Reminder for Westford Cemeteries 

  
Please remember that artificial flowers, wreaths, sprays, and potted decorations are only permitted from December 1st through April 1st. Baskets or other containers, not of a permanent nature, must be removed by the owners if they choose to preserve them, otherwise they will be removed. One flower bed is allowed on each monument lot and cannot extend more than 12" from the base of the monument.
