The Westford Fire Department is committed to providing the highest quality of service to our citizens, regardless of the situation presented to us, whether it is a type of Fire, Rescue or a medical emergency. The department does this by hiring highly qualified candidates who first need to be a State Certified EMT/Paramedic, working in that capacity for a minimum of 2 years full time, State Certified Firefighter I and II preferred with Firefighting experience. All Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic Candidates are then required to complete a:
- Background check
- Comprehensive written exam
- DOT Physical and psychological evaluation
- Firefighter Physical Agility exam given by the State
- Thorough interview process
After Being Hired
Then if the Candidate is hired, they will go through 12 weeks of Fire Academy Recruit Training if not already Firefighter I and II Certified or Academy trained. The Candidates will be on a 1 year probationary period while they train in the field with on duty companies. All Firefighter/EMT/Paramedics are offered continuing education classes, Fire Academy Classes, refresher and recertification courses throughout the year to maintain their certifications as well as updates on:
- Emergency Medicine
- Fire Prevention
- Hazardous Materials
- New technology and equipment
- Rescue
