When & Where
Westford has a contract with Acme Waste Systems (1-781-935-6339) to collect resident-generated trash once a week. To find out what day your trash is picked up, call the Town Clerk's Office at 978-692-5515. Please think before you toss items in the trash since Westford must pay $120 a ton to dispose of trash at a waste-to-energy plant in North Andover. The trash is incinerated and recyclables are banned from incineration by State environmental regulations. See list of Prohibited Items below. Holidays: No collection on holidays. When a holiday occurs, the collection will be a day later and Friday collection will take place on Saturday. Holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Patriots Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Please follow these rules:
- All trash must be at curbside by 7 AM. Please do not block the mail boxes.
- Trash must be in barrels (30 gallon maximum capacity) or bags (wall strength of 100 lbs) weighing not more than 50 lbs.
- Bulky items which are longer than 4 feet or too big to fit in a trash barrel (such as mattresses, furniture, bikes, etc.) must each have a Bulk Sticker on them to be collected. The Stickers cost $5 and are sold at: Greystone Convenience - 498 Groton Rd., L'il Peach - 103 Main St. & L'il Peach - Brookside Rd., Market Basket, Nab's One Stop Market 60 Brookside Rd., Town Hall - 55 Main St., Towne Convenience - 221 Groton Rd., Westford Convenience - 6 Carlisle PL.

The following items are prohibited:
- Cardboard
- Glass bottles & jars
- Computer Monitors
- Televisions
- Plastic jugs & bottles
- Newspapers & magazines
- Brush, grass clippings, leaves (see Leaves below)
- Office mail and paper
- Hazardous Waste
- Hot ashes (cool ashes may be placed in plastic bag).
- Auto parts & Machinery
- Lawn Mowers
- Gas Grills
- Propane Tanks
- Metal cans
- White Goods (Stove, washer/dryer, refrigerator, water heater, air conditioner, dishwasher, microwave).
- Helium tanks (includes small "party" tanks)

Leaves, Grass Clippings and Christmas Trees
State and local bans prohibit the collection of yard waste with trash.
