Candidates for local office must take out nomination papers from the Town Clerk's office, collect signatures from at least 50 voters (more are recommended just to be covered) and return the nomination papers, having signed one to accept the nomination paper (and of course you may sign your own nomination paper as one of the at least 50 voters) to the Town Clerk's office by 5:00pm on the 49th day prior to the election.
If you are unable to collect 50 signatures or miss the deadline to turn in nomination papers, you might consider running for office as a sticker or write-in candidate.
