2008 Local Candidates
View a list of candidates for the 2008 Town Election.  Candidates are reminded to adhere to Campaign Finance report filing deadlines.

The Voter registration and party enrollment change deadline for the May 6, 2008 Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 16th at 8:00pm.  You may register to vote by mail or in person at any town or city clerk's office in the Commonwealth, but you must do so by the deadline (mail in forms must be post marked by the deadline) in order to qualify to vote in the upcoming election.  Seventeen-year-olds may register if they will turn 18 on or before May 6th.  If you are a registered voter at your current address and have returned your census, there is no need to re-register.

Absentee Voting
If you will be out of town or are unable to get to the polls on election day, you may vote by absentee ballot.  You need to apply in writing in person or by mail and we will mail an absentee ballot to you or family member once we have received them (usually 20 days prior to election day); you may also vote at the counter at that time.  Absentee ballot applications are available at the Town Clerk's Office (currently located in the Police Station Training Room at 53 Main Street), Library and may be downloaded from the Secretary of State's website at http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/eleifv/howabs.htm.  The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot for the May 6th election is noon on Monday, May 5th. Absentee ballots should be available by April 16th.

Rabies Clinic for cats and dogs this Saturday, March 22, 2008
The Rabies Clinic will be held at the Center Fire Station this Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 9:00am until 12:00pm.  The cost this year will be $15 per pet.  If you bring proof of previous rabies vaccination that has not expired, your dog or cat may be entitled to a 3 year rabies vaccination.  Without proof of previous rabies vaccination, your dog or cat will be entitled to a 1 year rabies vaccination.  Please bring cats in a carrier.  Dogs must be leashed.  Staff from the Town Clerk's office will be available to license your dog at the rabies clinic.  Remember that the fee is $10 per dog and a valid rabies certificate is required.

March 31, 2008 Dog Licensing Grace Period ENDS!
All 2007 dog licenses expired on December 31st, so it's time to renew your dog's license for 2008.  State law requires that all dogs 6 months of age and older are required to be licensed.  The cost is still $10 per dog (no fee for owners 70 and over) and a current rabies certificate is required.  If you are renewing by mail, please include a self addressed, stamped envelope.  The grace period for licensing your dog ends on March 31st and on April 1st a late fee of $25 will charged in addition to the regular license fee per town bylaw.  There is no over 70 exemption for the late fee.

April 5, 2008 Electronics Drop Off
The electronics drop off dates for 2008 are April 5th, June 28th and September 20th.  These Saturday events will be held at Blanchard School (14 West Street) from 8:00am until 2:00pm.  Fees vary for electronics (cash only).  View the equipment collection list for more information on cost (note that the dates on the collection list reflect the 2007 calendar year).  Look for other recycling opportunities here.

April 19, 2008 curbside pickup of nonburnable items
The next curbside pickup for large nonburnable items (i.e., appliances, metal furniture, etc.) is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th.  A $30 sticker is required per item from the Town Clerk’s Office (currently located in the Police Station training room).  The deadline for the April pickup is NOON on Friday, April 18th.  Check the Recycling Commission's website at westfordrecycles.org for other options.

Have you returned your 2008 census form?
If you haven't had a chance to return your census form, it's not too late!  The Registrars of Voters must, by state law, inactivate census nonrespondents (this usually happens in July) every year.  This means that you become an Inactive Voter and will need to show ID when you go to vote in the fall.  If you cannot locate your census form, contact us and we will send you a blank census form to be completed.
